The Prospect Park East River Road Improvement Association Inc.(PPERRIA) 4/27/98 Annual Board/Membership/Neighborhood (B/M/N) meeting was called to order at the Prospect Park United Methodist Church at Malcolm/Orlin SE by President Susan Larson-Fleming. A quorum was present and there were no additions or corrections to the agenda (available at the meeting).
2. Approved were the 3/24/98 PPERRIA B/M/N meeting as published in the 4/98 PPERRIA Newsletter (mailed to all members).
3. There were a series of announcements: requesting volunteers for the Pratt Ice Cream Social on 5/29/98; the Minneapolis Home Tour that features four Prospect Park sites; there will be summer concerts; neighborhood crime statistics; several upcoming meetings as listed in the Newsletter calendar. Andy Mickel gave each attendee the newly published Neighborhood Directory.
4. Motion, moved and seconded, and passed without noes, "To release up to $3,000 from the PPERRIA/NRP Parks B.2 section of the Action Plan for the printing of cards about Tower Hill Park and the publication of the Hesse-Roise study in booklet form with pictures. The sale of these items will provide funds for future Tower Hill projects." Susan Thresh, Tower Hill Committee chair, presented the motion, provided additional information and answered questions.
5. Katherine Carlson of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) discussed and answered questions about the ground pollution on the Valentine-Clark site (closed in 1971). This site was once a timber preservative industry located near the Bridal Veil Pond, north of University Avenue. The ground pollution is migrating into the pond area. Watch for much more about this issue.
6. Daniel Boudett (student) and Richard Bolen (instructor) of a graduate level class from the University of Minnesota Humphrey Institute, presented their study of the University Avenue from 26th Avenue on the west to city limits on the east. Copies of the study are available from members of the existing University Avenue Corridor Study committee. A copy is at the Pratt building. It was commented that this study will provided valuable information and ideas for the further discussion and formulating of a full plan with implementation as the end goal. A great start!!!
7. Susan Gottlieb, PPERRIA/NRP contractor, reviewed the contractor report as published in the 4/98 PPERRIA Newsletter and available at the meeting.
