Neighborhood Events

Besides our annual community events such as our Spring Ice-Cream Social held at Pratt School and Tower Hill, our newer mid-Winter Fire-and-Ice celebration at Luxton Park, and the August National Night Out for Block Clubs, our Neighborhood delights many people with a plethora of other activities and events.

January

• Spaghetti Dinner at St. Francis Cabrini Church, 339-3023.

February

• (first Saturday evening) Fire & Ice Festival, 5:30-8:30 p.m. - Luxton Park. A family winter event with horse-drawn hayrides, skating and bonfire (a way to dispose of Christmas trees) 370-4925.
• (fourth Thursday) Black History Month Celebration. Exhibits and events sponsored by Luxton Park Community Center, 370-4925.

March

• (last week or even April) Spring Holiday Concert of choral music by the Community Choir at Prospect Park United Methodist Church, 331-3713.

April

• Bake & Rummage Sale, a fund-raiser for Prospect Park Co-op Nursery School at Prospect Park United Methodist Church, 378-2380.
• (near Earth Day ~ 20th) Mississippi River Cleanup environmental event with Marcy-Holmes, Seward and University neighborhoods, 339-3064.
• (fourth Monday evening) PPERRIA Annual Meeting at Prospect Park United Methodist Church, lower level. Refreshments, elections and special program, 331-2970.

May

• (first Sunday afternoon) Luxton Park Painters Art Show & Sale at Luxton Park Community Center, 370-4925.
• (early May) Pasta Pops & Pies music & talent show fundraiser at Prospect Park United Methodist Church, 378-2380.
• (mid-month) Bloom 'n Buds Plant Sale at Good Samaritan on SE 27th Avenue, 332-4262.
• (third Thursday) Pratt Community Council annual potluck & meeting, 668-1122.
• (first Friday evening after Memorial Day Weekend) Pratt Ice Cream Social, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. Held on the school grounds, Malcolm Avenue and Tower Hill; the tower observation deck is open this one time per year only, 668-1122.

June

• (mid-month for 8 weeks) Summer Splash recreation program for kids at Pratt & Luxton Community Centers, 668-1122.
• (mid-month Monday evening) Summer Community Concert at Minnich Triangle (SE Franklin Ave @ East River Rd), 378-9697.
• (last Thursday) Celebrate Life Festival at Luxton Park Community Center, 370-4925.

July

• (second Saturday afternoon—rain or shine) Prospect Park Garden Walk - tour dozens of gardens in the neighborhood, 378-5200.
• (mid-month Monday evening) Summer Community Concert, 378-9697.

August

• (first Tuesday evening) National Night Out – Neighborhood block club gatherings and block parties with PPERRIA-NRP and Glendale block clubs sponsored by CCP/SAFE, 673-3015.
• (mid-month) Outdoor Community Concert at Tower Hill, 378-9697.

September

• (second Saturday morning) Pratt Neighborhood Sale & Pancake Breakfast - Sell items from the trunk (boot) of your car at the Pratt Community Center parking lot, 668-1122.
• (last Saturday morning) Neighborhood "Clean Sweep" sponsored by PPERRIA. A chance to set out large items by the curb for special pickup, 331-2970.

October

• (first Sunday morning, 7 a.m.) Twin Cities Marathon and 10-mile run enter the neighborhood via the Franklin Avenue Bridge and continues down E. River Pkwy. TCM mile 19 (mile 3.5 of the 10) features a huge Wall façade; liquids station; loud music.
• (second weekend) Mostly Weaving Sale by city-wide Weavers Guild at Joy & Phil Thompson's, 27 SE Melbourne Avenue, 378-2397.
• (mid-month) Talent Show at Luxton Park by Good Samaritan and Luxton Park Community Center, 370-4925.
• (last Sunday afternoon) Pumpkin Carving Parties hosted by various neighbors throughout the neighborhood.

November

• (first Saturday) Prospect Park United Methodist Church Annual Bazaar & Art Sale, with mid-morning snack and lunch; evening auction, 378-2380.
• (Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving) Community Thanksgiving Service at either St. Francis Cabrini or Prospect Park United Methodist Churches, 378-2380.

December

• (mid-month) Winter Holiday Concert by the Community Choir at Prospect Park United Methodist Church, 378-9697.
